"Peanut Brittle"

Peanut

2009-2011

From 2009 to 2014, one of Shailah’s most memorable lease ponies was Peanut Brittle, known around the barn as Peanut—a 14.2 hand chestnut pony with a bold blaze and an even bolder personality. Peanut was stubborn, opinionated, and endlessly challenging, but that was exactly what made him such an incredible teacher. Through countless rides, he taught Shailah how to truly grow in the show ring, how to pick herself up and keep going after bad falls, and how to patiently train a pony who didn’t always want to cooperate. Together, they learned to channel determination into polish, competing in the hunter ring with class, consistency, and heart. Peanut shaped Shailah’s confidence, resilience, and horsemanship, leaving a lasting impact on the rider she would become.

"Completely 3"

Grai

2012-November 2013

Shailah's first horse she owned, Grai, was far more than just a mount—he was her greatest teacher and the foundation of everything she knows about horses today. Through Grai, Shay learned true showmanship and horsemanship, discovering how patience, presentation, and partnership in the ring come from trust and consistent work at home. Owning Grai taught her the real responsibility behind horse ownership, from daily care and management to making hard decisions that always put the horse first. When Grai faced tendon injuries, Shay was introduced firsthand to equine first aid, rehabilitation, and the emotional strength required to support a horse through setbacks. Those challenges shaped her knowledge, compassion, and confidence, turning lessons learned the hard way into lifelong skills that continue to guide her journey in the equine world.

"Sea 'N' Stars"

Seabank

December 2013-2016

Sea’N’Stars, lovingly known as Seabank, was a once-in-a-lifetime horse whose impact far outweighed his short years. Shailah bought him when he was just four years old and poured her heart into bringing him along, training him with patience, dedication, and an unbreakable belief in his potential. Together they learned and grew side by side, building a bond rooted in trust, hard work, and quiet moments that only a horse person truly understands. Tragically, Seabank later came down with a devastating spinal injury, and despite every hope and effort, the kindest choice was to let him go. He was put down far too young at the age of seven, leaving behind heartbreak—but also a legacy of love, lessons, and a chapter of Shailah’s journey that will never be forgotten.

"Something To Notice"

Stella

2014 August-2017 March

Stella was a special mare who played a powerful role in Shailah’s growth as a horsewoman. Shailah backed and trained her from the very beginning, starting with no saddle and patiently building a solid foundation step by step until Stella was confidently jumping full 2-foot courses. The journey wasn’t always easy, but it was deeply rewarding—Stella demanded consistency, calmness, and trust, teaching Shailah the true meaning of patience and resilience. Through every setback and breakthrough, Stella helped shape Shailah’s confidence, horsemanship, and belief in doing things the right way, leaving a lasting mark on her riding journey.
